Join us for an evening of Spanish Cheese & Wine!
We are pleased to welcome Alicia Bustillo of Salamanca's Hacienda Zorita, an organic farm and one of our favourite Spanish suppliers. We will open with an aperitivo Rose Cava and Spanish Pinxos followed by a tasting journey exploring the terroir of the region through wine, cheese & charcuterie.
Salamanca is an ancient Celtic city bordering Portugal in the north west of Spain. Spread over several hills along the Tormes River, it is an important university city. Its picturesque landscape draws tourists, however it is also a centre for agriculture and farming.
Founded in 1366, Hacienda Zorita has centuries of history in organic farming in the region.
We will begin the wine tasting with a Verdejo, followed by two very different styles of Rioja; the first is an intriguing single estate wine from their unique vineyard – granted Experimental Status to grow international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot & Syrah, it has been crafted using extreme viticulture techniques. The second Rioja won the Gold Sommelier Awards 2016 and is a more classic Reserva Rioja.
The wines will be paired with Curado de Cabra, Torta de Dehesa & Curado Reserva, all made on the Zorita Farm using milk from the indigenous Churra breed of sheep. For charcuterie we will be tasting Jamon, Lomo, Choriza Pata Negra, Teruel & Iberico Salchichon de Vic.
We'll finish on a sweet note with sherry paired with Leon's Picos de Europa.
This promises to be a fascinating insight to the culture, history & tastes of this rich landscape.
