Tasting Notes
Straw Mat for Serving

A brilliant time of year to enjoy the close texture Golden Cross with its gently nutty flavours becoming sweetly earthy and buttery.
Sharpham’s Cremet has a mellow earthy appeal, highlighted by its creamy almost verging on clotted cream texture.  Really wonderful right now as the wealth of flora & different spring grasses showcase in the flavours.
Gorwydd Caerphilly has a familiar crumbly texture, yet tastes fresh and creamy, with lovely earthy mellow tones.
Maida Vale; rich & soft, with a rind washed lightly in a local ale from Uprising Brewery contributing a salty, lively edge to the flavours.
Cote Hill Blue’s rind has been rubbed in the blue roqueforti moulds to enhance the flavours of the creamy richness of the cheese with distinct earthy, mushroom notes.

PAIRING WINES

CHATEAU DE BEAULIEU

LA MARMANDAIS, BORDEAUX

MERLOT, CABERNET FRANC, CABERNET SAUVIGNON & ABOURIOU

Agnes & Robert Schulte work their 31 acre vineyards producing a very individual wine of character. Unlike more mundane styles from this area, they have produced through clever blending, with the help of expert Marc Quertinier, a rich, dense, full bodied wine which competes very well with the more expensive labels in the Bordeaux Appellation.

THE KERNEL BREWERY RANGE

PALE ALE

This East London micro brewery changes the blend seasonally, and this particular blend is of Amarillo, Ella & Centennial hops.  Using unique & seasonal hops all batches of Pale Ale are bottle conditioned leaving sediments at the bottom of each bottle.  It is advisable to pour gentle if you prefer the sediments to remain in the bottle, although we rather like the mix of flavour sensations when they are mingled. Good with cheese!

TABLE BEER

A light, low calcohol beer to be enjoyed at any time of day but especially for a relaxed lunch or even a pre-dinner drink.  All Kernel beers are bottle conditioned and therefore there is sediment sitting at the bottom of the bottle. Pour gently if you prefer the sediments to remain in the bottle, although we rather like the mingling mix of flavours. Good with regional UK cheeses.

EXPORT STOUT, LONDON 1890

Gold medal winner at the SIBA. South East Brewing Awards:  Best Bottled Beer. Based on a recipe from a London brewery in 1890, this East London micro-brewery has achieved an outstanding Stout.  Its simple recipe belies a massive taste.  Dark inky black with ‘oily’ texture.  There are loads of rich dried fruit & alcohol warmth giving senses of rum & raisin. Then a herbal hop bitterness ending in a gorgeous espresso coffee finish – pefect with chocolate
