Aperitif & Sparkling Wines

Floc de Gasgogne Domaine d’Ognoas: A blend of Gros Manseng/Colombard/Ugni Blanc. Aperitif from Gascony which has a little Armagnac added to a sweet wine. Makes a delicious aperitif when served over ice.

Cidre de Ferme: Pierre Bauche. Normandy farmhouse cider with an earthy rustic taste from very old established family producer using old fashioned equipment and bottling – Apple or Pear.

Prosecco di Conegliano: Vino Frizzante. Vitivinicola Palazzo Rosso Sommariva - Dry & semi-sparkling, very light with a slight almond bitterness to an otherwise ripe fruit taste.

Vilmart Champagne: Grand Reserve & Grand Cellier: Rilly. Chardonnay & Pinot Noir grapes - Classic well structured Champagne from a tiny vineyard producing a unique delicious foamy vanilla essence tasting wine.

Methode Traditionnelle de Rene Quenard: Savoie. Chardonnay & Pinot Noir grapes This is a light, frothy Champagne with easy drinking appeal & not too dry or too gassy. Serve on its own or with the addition of Crème de Peche, Cassis, Framboise or Mure for a delicious aperitif.

France: White Wines

Chateau Bouscasse: Gascony, SW France. 100% Petit Corbu grape. Alain Brumont’s wines are always well structured and full of interesting flavours. This has a fresh citrus zesty taste with exotic tropical flavours & a hint of honey, which marries perfectly with fish and seafood, and fresh goat’s cheeses.

Chignin: Savoie, Eastern France. Rene Quenard’s La Marechale wine. Chignin grape variety, perfect for fondue & Raclette, as well as young fruity cheeses such as Beaufort, Reblochon & Vacherin du Mont d'Or. A clean refreshing herbal taste.

Gros Manseng: Gascony, SW France. Petit Manseng grape. Alain Brumont’s light and gentle wine in the simple style with fragrant zesty structure, and perfect as an aperitif or as an easy drinking lunchtime tipple. This is our 'house white' available by the glass.

Italy: White Wines

Langhe Arneis: Piedmont, Northern Italy. Arneis grape. Roberto Sarotto’s delicious earthy light textured classic wine with a light “fizz” on the nose. Lovely as an aperitif as well as accompanying delicately cooked foods. If you like Gavi di Gavi style wines, then you will love this wine too as it has the same sort of fruity ripeness but with more earthy interest.

Costozza: Vicenza, Italy Pinot Bianco with a tiny bit of Pinot Grigio. Bright with a well balanced acidity & velvet full bodied taste. Great with goat’s cheeses

France: Rose

Rosé du Frontonnais Le Roc 2004: Domaine Le Roc, Fronton. Negrette, Syrah & Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. This Rosé is made by ‘bleeding’ Negrette, Syrah & Cabernet Sauvignon, after a cold pre-fermentation maceration with up to 5 months on its lees.Fresh, floral, full-bodied & rich, with plenty of fruit on the palate & a herbal fresh round ending. Also available by the glass

France: Red Wines

Chateau le Roc: LA FROMAGERIE House Red. Cotes de Frontonnais. Negrette (60%) with blend of Syrah & Cabernet Sauvignon (20% each) Situated on a 32 acre property south of Toulouse, Jean-Luc and Frederic Ribes take full advantage of the terroir in producing vigorous tasting wines. We chose this for our house wine as it packs a punch for the money & is extremely versatile, insofar as it pairs beautifully with cheese as well as simple style foods & more complex stews. Lovely hits of cherry & spice make this a great modern style everyday wine.

Chateau Beaulieu: Marmande, Lot et Garonne, nr Bordeaux. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon & a local grape variety Abouriou. Robert Schulte’s dry classy wine, perfect with cheddar style cheeses, Stilton, and of course rare roast beef or other robust main courses.

Santenay: Nicolas Potel ‘Beauregard’ – Cotes d’Or, southern Burgundy – Pinot Noir – Vieille Vignes means that the vines are aged at least 60 years ensuring a richness and concentration to the wine. Being a wine from the southern part of the Cotes d’Or the tannins are subtle with lots of ripe scented smoky fruit. An attractive wine when drinking young, but ageing results in a more complex style. Nicolas Potel is a young upcoming winemaker who is making quite a name for himself.

Italy: Red Wines

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 1998: Villa Spinosa, Jago, Negrar in Valpolicella. Deep garnet red with full fruity, dark dry raisin fruit aromas. Rich in the mouth with an intensity giving spice & heat to a smooth, slightly dry finish. To be enjoyed with roast meats including game. This vintage was exceptional & the supply is limited.

Enrico 1st Langhe Rosso 1998: Roberto Sarotto. Nebbiolo, Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot grapes – The blend of grapes gives this wine its full bodied earthy richness, but not too overpoweringly tannic on the palate.Perfect with cheeses like Fontina or Raschera or even a matured rich Robiola delle Langhe soft cheese.

Sforzato: Valtellina, Ronco del Picchio vineyard with Sandro Fay as oenologist. A rich, opulent woody taste to this elegant wine. Partners the lovely creamy Piedmontese Robiola di Langhe cheeses perfectly.

Tassinaia “place of stones”: Castello dei Terriccio, Castellina Marittima, Livorno – Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese with a balance of Merlot in equal quantities. From vines planted in 1990 this Super Tuscan has a firm, juicy character with tannins as a backbone to the fine finish. The aromas of black fruits & spice with concentrated berries edge through the leather & spicy oak acidity. Fabulous with Pecorino cheeses.

Teroldego Rotaliano Drago 2000: Marco Donati, Maso Donati in Mezzocorona-Campo Rotaliano vineyards, Trentino. 100% Teroldego grapes. This is considered the prince of wines from Trentino, & on first impact there is a very rich, fruity & deep violet intensity.

Italy: Dessert Wines

Brachetto: From the estate of Roberto Sarotto in Piedmont region of Nothern Italy – Brachetto grape blended with a little Aleatico & Moscato Nero grapes. A stylish red dessert wine with a slightly frizzante taste giving the sweetness a zesty overtone. The foamy mousse on first pouring into the glass has a lovely aroma, like old roses & berries. One of the rare wines to partner chocolate.

Moscato d’Asti ‘Chiarale’: Piedmont. Moscato grape with regular filtration during the first stages to give the wine a clear fresh sweetness. Delicate, lightly sparkling with flowery aroma white wine to accompany fruit or dessert, especially good with crisp sweet biscotti.
