Farmhouse cheese quite unlike the usual mass produced cheeses seen commercially. The Boerenkaas is two years old and the extra-matured is four years old. The two year cheese is smooth, mellow with a little salty grittiness and tasting deep and nutty. The four year has a dark ochre rind and the cheese is a beautiful dark colour and the texture is grainy wherein the fruity caramelized flavours give your tastebuds a real boost. Lovely when used as a breakfast cheeseor for snacks as well as part of a classic cheeseboard selection. From small independent farms using unpasteurised milk from their own herd directly imported by La Fromagerie. 7 mth - mild & smooth / 2 yr - nutty with a light fruity taste / 4 yr - fruit & nutty with a gritty edge.
