Valentines: 1952 - 2012: 60 Glorious Years

Valentines, this year, has a slightly more nostalgic feeling as 2012 celebrates our Queen's Diamond Jubilee, so we invite you to join us as we make the Royal toast with the Queen's favourite cocktail of a Martini, shaken not stirred with Sacred Gin & a lemon twist, proving that Diamonds Really are Forever. For those preferring more sparkle in their glass we will serve Crémant d'Alsace, a perfect pairing to Ole Hansen's smoked salmon our Norwegian inspired homage to the 6^th Olympic Games which opened in Oslo, Norway on February 14^th 1952...
For our menu we have taken inspiration from the British chefs shaping our culinary future back in 1952 with George Perry Smith's Salmon en Croute with pealeaves to sublime classic dishes from Elizabeth David & Jane Grigson of Chicken in a delicate Tarragon Sauce with seasonal vegetables, Patricia will choose the perfect British cheese plate, with supper finishing on a most regal note with Marguerite Patten's Queen of Puddings.
Each course will paired with wines along with a showing of the classic Anna Neagle movie 'Sixty Glorious Years' about the courtship and marriage of Queen Victoria to Prince Albert...okay so maybe there will be a little romance after all...

As with all La Fromagerie Valentines suppers this is not a typical Valentines, the emphasis is on good food, wine & company (on long communal tables with only a few tables of two available) - it will be memorable with perhaps a more light hearted approach to the 14th; not necessarily for those in search of a quiet romantic evening...

Billecart-Salmon Champagne Tasting Supper

We are delighted to be joined by James Thomas of Billecart-Salmon Champagne House for a truly decadent evening tasting some of the very best Champagnes from this legendary champagne house.
James will conduct a ‘tasting journey’ exploring these complex and diverse Champagnes that are so much more than just an aperitif, taking food & wine pairings to whole new level. From delicate Blanc de Blanc, Brut 2004, Brut Sous Bois, a unique cuvee entirely vinified in oak to their stunning Rosé finishing with a Demi Sec.

Patricia will co host with James as we devise thoughtful and sophisticated pairings of champagne alongside such dishes as delicate Sole in a Blanc de Blanc Champagne sauce with Samphire to a twice baked soufflé with Sous Bois from Switzerland and one of Patricia’s favourite dishes inspired by Mon Vieil Ami in Paris of steamed root vegetables in a delicate broth finished with slivers of foie gras.
Supper will finish with a perfectly paired cheese plate & ‘Champagne Rhubarb’ with Panna Cotta.
This promises to be delicious and insightful evening, which no doubt, after a rather grey January we will be in need of a little decadence.

Fondue Savoyarde

Join us at La Fromagerie in Highbury for a cosy candlelit evening with a high mountain tasting of classic Savoie fare with a Fondue Savoyarde.
Tara & Aidan will be talking about the Savoie region & the cheeses used in this classic dish from the creamy Reblochon to our signature cheese, Beaufort Chalet d'Alpage.
Over a glass of Cremant d'Alsace and cheese sablés made with Comte d'Estive, guests will be shown the art of making a proper fondue and how to choose the right cheeses to complement each other.
After the demonstration guests will enjoy the fondue with ham & salami from the Franche Comte & Pyrenees with cornichons & crusty bread paired with a glass of the local Chignin wine. To finish, Tart Fines aux Pommes with Le Piantagioni Coffee or Mint Infusion.

Burns Night Supper

In January we will be enjoying our annual Burns Night Supper with Rabbie Burns & copious drams of whisky, as we celebrate
Robert Burns; poet & balladeer, Scotland's favourite son & champion of the common people.
Every January, Scots along with anyone partial to haggis, take time out to honour a national icon.

We will be toasting our Burns Night Celebration with Compass Box Whisky, renowned for making small batch, hand crafted Scotch whiskies in distinctive & original styles, these whiskies have a wide appeal even for those who do not consider themselves whisky drinkers.
Guests will enjoy a delicious whisky laced supper of classic Scottish fare: Cock-a-Leekie Soup, Scottish Smoked Salmon with Caboc & the ubiquitous Haggis with 'Neeps & Tattis' followed by Typsy Laird & a Cheese Plate with oatcakes washed down with liberal tots of very good Scotch whisky - accompanied to the sounds of bagpipes and a fabulous rendition of 'Ode to a Haggis' which all makes for a really enjoyable evening. Kilts optional!

Tara & Aidan will be guiding guests through a tasting of the perfect cheese board pairings for the festive season; from the traditional Colston Bassett Stilton & Cheddar to the more adventurous alongside pairings of red, white & dessert wine, followed by a selection of Christmas dolce &mince pies.
The shop will be open until 9pm and guests will be offered a 10% discount on Christmas fare

Thanksgiving Supper

We will be celebrating Thanksgiving with Prosecco & whisky sours on arrival followed by a four course supper of all-American fare paired with some fabulous wines, guests will feast on chowder or pumpkin soup with pumpkin bread, roast turkey with all the trimmings, the perfect cheese course tutored by Patricia finishing with the essential apple pie & pumpkin pie.

Beaujolais at La Fromagerie Highbury

We are delighted to invite you to a candlelit tasting evening at La Fromagerie's Highbury shop, when we will toast and enjoy the new season's Beaujolais - so not just the ordinary version but the very lovely Beaujolais Nouveau Village!
This will be a standing event, (but those who know our shop in Highbury will know numbers are limited!)
We will start with an aperitif of Kir 'Royale' or Floc de Gascogne over ice and canapes, followed by a selection of cheeses chosen by Patricia to be great companions to Beaujolais, including St. Marcellin, Camembert, St Nectaire, Cantal Laguiole Entre-Deux & Bleu d'Auvergne; all served on Poilane bread or La Fromagerie biscuits.
We will finish with a Petit Pot au Chocolat or Crème Caramel in true Bistro tradition and Le Piantagioni coffee or Mint infusion.

N.B: The Ticket price includes aperitif and two glasses of wine.

A Beaujolais Supper

Join us for a glass of Kir Royal as we celebrate one of our favourite La Fromagerie Tasting evenings, the 2011 harvest of the Beaujolais Nouveau Village with a candlelit supper of classic French Bistro fare.
From Bayonne Ham with Celeriac Remoulade & Escargot Anglais followed by to Burgundian classic of Boeuf Bourguignon,
Patricia will then give a tutored tasting with a seasonal French cheese plate, including St Marcellin; the perfect pairing with Beaujolais.
