A Cheese in Revolution

From the revolutionary gourmand Brillat Savarin to Louis Sixteenth's last wish for a taste of Brie de Meaux we invite you to join us on a both romantic and celebratory journey of French cheese; as we discover the part the French revolution played in the shaping French cheeses we know today.

On arrival guests will enjoy a chilled glass of Cremant with Gougere & Foie gras & Brillat Savarin with summer truffle.The tasting will begin on the Opal coast in the north of France with Normandy and Brittany for a tasting of Camembert, Coeur Neufchatel and washed rind cheeses paired with Pierre Bauche's farmhouse cider

We then arrive in Paris in time to storm the Bastille with our version of Salad Parisienne paying homage to the literary voyeur of Parisian life, Victor Hugo, with one of his most famous characters Monsieur Jean Valjean, incorporating Comte d'Estive (Les Miserables Chapter 1V Cheese-Dairies of Pontarlier) With this guests will enjoy one of our fabulous Jura wines; Côtes du Jura Cuvée Florine 2006« La Combe », Rotalier, made near to where Victor Hugo was born.

From Paris we move south through Ile de France with Brie de Meaux, then on to Centre with Valençay renowned for being reshaped by Napoleon (in a fit of rage), which ended up looking a bit like his hat, we follow this with a very fitting Napoleon cheese from the South West finishing with a most regal blue cheese Roquefort Carles.

Paired with a beautifully aromatic and complex wine; Château de Beaulieu Le Bel Insolent 2003 from Saint-Sauveur-de-Meilhan in the Marmande

For dessert, well 'let them eat cake' as guests indulge in strawberry genoise with whipped cream finishing with Le Piantagioni Coffee & Milly la Foret Herb Tea
